Milano-Bicocca's Artificial Intelligence for Science and Technology master asks for a bachelor's degree with at least 30 credits in computer science, maths, statistics and physics, and English at B2. The 30-credit rule
You need a bachelor's degree (or a three-year university diploma) or higher. Your previous studies must include at least 30 CFU in total across these academic disciplines: [1][2]
- Computer science and computer engineering: INF/01, ING-INF/05 and ING-INF/03.
- Mathematics: MAT/01 to MAT/09.
- Statistics: SECS-S/01 to SECS-S/06.
- Physics: FIS/01 to FIS/08.
Credits from single course exams can count towards the 30, unless those exams are compulsory units of this master's. [1]
Interview exemption or admission to interview
Once you meet the 30-credit rule, your grade and subject credits place you in one of three cases. Grades are given on the Italian 110 scale or a 4-point GPA scale. [1][2]
- No interview: a bachelor's mark of 100/110 or higher, or a GPA of at least 3.55 out of 4; or a master's degree in class LM-17, LM-18, LM-21, LM-25, LM-27, LM-32, LM-35, LM-40, LM-44, LM-66, LM-82 or LM-91, or a foreign master's the committee recognises as eligible.
- Also no interview: a mark from 95/110 to below 100/110, or a GPA from 3.32 to below 3.55, plus at least 20 CFU in computer science, 15 in mathematics and 5 in statistics and probability.
- Remote interview: a mark of at least 85/110, or a GPA of at least 3.2, plus at least 6 CFU in computer science, 6 in mathematics and 4 in statistics and probability.
Applicants who fit none of these cases are not admitted. If the knowledge for a subject threshold came from a course in another discipline, you attach that course's syllabus for assessment. [1][2]
The interview checks basics in programming, algorithms, data structures and AI; linear algebra, calculus and series; descriptive statistics, probability, inference and the linear model; and statics, dynamics, energy, thermodynamics, electromagnetism and optics. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit, and the committee looks at the subjects you passed, not just your total. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, IT or Electronics, or a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Physics, since these subjects all count towards the 30 credits.
- Check carefully: a BCA or B.Sc. IT usually covers the 30 credits through computing, but the interview route also needs at least 6 maths and 4 statistics credits. A B.E. in Mechanical or Civil Engineering often has the maths and physics but few computing credits.
- Often short: a B.Com, BBA or BA rarely reaches 30 credits in these disciplines, even with a business statistics paper.
The published thresholds use the 110 scale and a 4-point GPA only. If your transcript shows a 10-point CGPA or percentages, we check where your grade sits before you apply. [1][2]
English
English at CEFR level B2 is required. [1][2] On the university's list of accepted certificates, B2 starts at IELTS Academic 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 59 or a Cambridge English score of 160, and certificates must be no more than 5 years old when you submit them. [3]
For applicants with a foreign qualification, you do not need a separate certificate if your previous degree was taught entirely in English or English is your native language. [2]
2026/27 application windows
Applicants with a foreign qualification apply only through the university's DreamApply portal. [1] For 2026/27 there were two windows open to applicants living abroad: [2]
- 7 November 2025 to 16 January 2026.
- 16 March to 16 April 2026.
Two later windows, 15 May to 15 June 2026 and 7 July to 7 September 2026, were only for EU and non-EU applicants already living in Italy. The 2027/28 dates are set by the next call. [2]
Applicants still finishing a bachelor's could apply if they graduated by 31 December 2026. The committee assessed the exams already passed, using the credit-weighted average of their grades. [1]

Admitted students pay a deposit to secure their place. Tuition depends on the programme and your country of income. [2]
Qualification documents are accepted in English or Italian. Otherwise you need official translations with verified copies of the originals, and you bring the original documents with you when you arrive at the university. [2]

About the programme
Artificial Intelligence for Science and Technology is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-91) taught in English. It is organised jointly by the University of Milano-Bicocca, the University of Milan and the University of Pavia, with administrative headquarters at Milano-Bicocca, where we apply and you enrol. The Physics Department coordinates it, and classes are held on the Milan and Pavia campuses.
It trains specialists in the theoretical foundations, techniques and use of artificial intelligence in complex applications, and suits graduates in computer science, mathematics, physics, statistics or engineering.
What you will study
All students take a common core of 42 credits, then choose one 36-credit specialisation track, 12 credits of electives, a 6-credit internship and a 21-credit final thesis. The programme brochure lists:

How the programme is taught
Beyond computer science, mathematics, physics and statistics, the course covers the organisational and legal side of bringing AI into organisations. The internship can be academic or pre-professional, and the thesis closes the second year.
Career paths
Graduates can help design and build solutions based on advanced AI techniques for complex applications in the public and private sectors, in areas such as industrial automation, environmental monitoring, embedded systems, biomedical and health systems, and quantum technologies. The degree also leads to PhD programmes.
Fees and scholarships
This degree is in the sciences group, fee area B. In 2026/27 international students with a foreign qualification and residence abroad paid fixed tuition by country group, and India is in group 1, the lowest group. DSU scholarship winners are fully exempt, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.

We apply on apply.unimib.it. The committee checks your 30 qualifying credits and exempts strong candidates from the interview. For 2026/27, open-access calls for non-EU applicants living abroad ran from 7 November 2025 to 16 January 2026 and from 16 March to 16 April 2026. Later windows were only for applicants already living in Italy. The 2027/28 calendar is not yet published.
