- At least 45 CFU in basic subjects: chemistry, physics, computer science, mathematics and statistics (sectors CHIM/03, CHIM/07, FIS/01, FIS/03, INF/01, ING-INF/05, MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05 to MAT/09, SECS-S/01 and SECS-S/02).
- At least 80 CFU in characterising engineering subjects: the industrial engineering sectors ING-IND/01 to ING-IND/35, which cover mechanical, energy, materials, chemical, electrical and management engineering, plus FIS/04, ICAR/01, ICAR/03, ICAR/08, ING-INF/04, ING-INF/06 and ING-INF/07.

What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit: one CFU here stands for 25 hours of work, up to 8 of them in class, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. [1] As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Production, Industrial or Industrial and Production Engineering, which normally pairs a maths and physics base with a large block of industrial engineering subjects.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electrical, Chemical, Metallurgical, Materials or Mechatronics Engineering often covers the basic block, but your engineering subjects must add up to about 80 credits in the listed sectors.

About the programme
Industrial Engineering for Sustainable Manufacturing (IESM) is a two-year interclass master's of 120 ECTS in classes LM-31 (management engineering) and LM-33 (mechanical engineering). It is run by the Polytechnic Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Udine and taught entirely in English in Udine, at Via delle Scienze 206. The final thesis is also written and discussed in English. [1]
The course trains engineers with a solid technical base and practical knowledge of recent sustainable technologies, looking at goods and services across their whole life cycle. It focuses on circular supply chains, the energy transition and hard-to-abate industries such as steel. It suits graduates in industrial, mechanical or management engineering.

The first year is shared. In the second year you follow track M (production and materials) or track E (processing and environment or energy), with 18 ECTS of profile courses. Course units include:

How the programme is taught
Teaching is lab-based and project-based, using real engineering cases and input from industry professionals. The second year includes 12 ECTS of electives, internships or recognised projects, 3 ECTS of seminars and workshops, and a 15 ECTS thesis. The course works with a group of partner companies and encourages international mobility.
Career paths
Graduates design and manufacture sustainable products and plan sustainable processes and services in the private and public sectors. Roles named by the course include:
