Degree and subject requirements
You need an undergraduate degree of at least three years, or an equivalent qualification, in Energy Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering. Country rules and minimum grades
The university's 2027/28 country table sets these master's entry titles and minimum grades: [3]
- India: a 3 or 4-year Honours bachelor's, a professional bachelor's of 4, 5 or 5.5 years, or a 3-year pass or general bachelor's plus a postgraduate bachelor's or a master's of at least one year. Minimum GPA 70/100, 7.0/10, 5.6/8 or 2.8/4.
- Pakistan: a 3-year bachelor's (Honours), a 4 or 5-year professional bachelor's, or a 2-year pass bachelor's plus a 2-year master's. Minimum GPA 3.3/4.0.
- Bangladesh: a 4-year Honours bachelor's or a 4 or 5-year professional bachelor's. Minimum GPA 3.3/4.0.
- Sri Lanka: a 4-year bachelor's or a Special Degree. Minimum GPA 3.0/4.0.
What this means for your transcript
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a four-year B.Tech or B.E. in Mechanical, Chemical or Energy Engineering whose transcript shows thermodynamics, fluid machines, heat transfer and basic electrical engineering, with a grade above your country's minimum.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electrical or Petroleum Engineering, which are listed fields but can be thin on heat transfer or fluid machines, and nearby fields such as Aerospace, Automobile or Production Engineering, where the committee decides whether the field counts as related.
- Often short: a B.Sc. in Physics or Chemistry, a B.Tech in Civil, Electronics or Computer Engineering, or a BCA, which rarely cover all four required areas. A B.Com, BBA or BA is far from the subject rule. From India, a three-year pass or general bachelor's also needs a postgraduate qualification to meet the country rule.

[1] For 2027/28, accepted B2 scores include IELTS Academic or General Training 6.0, TOEFL iBT 86 for tests taken until 20 January 2026 or 4.5 for tests taken from 21 January 2026, PTE Academic 65, Cambridge B2 First 173, Trinity ISE II, Oxford Test of English 126 and Duolingo English Test 115. Certificates must still be valid or, where they have no expiry date, have been obtained within two years of 15 September 2026. You can upload one after applying, up to 31 July 2027. [4]
You are exempt if you are a native speaker from a listed English-speaking country, such as the United Kingdom or the United States, or completed your qualification entirely in English in one of those countries or in the EU or Schengen area. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are not on that list. [4]
Selection
The 2027/28 application page lists no entrance test, and the programme has open admission with requirements. [1][7] Under the selection criteria put to the programme council in December 2025, the evaluation committee scores each application on: [2]

2027/28 deadlines
Non-EU applicants living abroad can apply in Call One, from 15 September to 15 November 2026, or Call Two, from 1 December 2026 to 1 March 2027. Call Three, from 1 April to 1 June 2027, is only for EU students and non-EU students living in Italy. You can apply to a programme only once per academic year, and studies start on 1 October 2027. The application needs your transcript, your degree certificate if already awarded, a CV, a motivation letter and your English certificate. About the programme
Energy Engineering is a master's degree in class LM-30-R, known in Italian as Ingegneria energetica e nucleare, taught in English in Padua by the School of Engineering and the Department of Industrial Engineering.
It lasts two years, carries 120 ECTS and has open admission with requirements. The programme holds EUR-ACE accreditation, the European quality label for engineering degrees. [1]

How the programme is taught
The department's teaching and research laboratories cover more than 4,500 square metres, and students can join student-led design projects that compete at national and international level. Internship offers are posted on the university's Moodle platform.
Students can also apply for a T.I.M.E. (Top International Managers in Engineering) double degree with partner universities and polytechnics in Europe and Asia, graduating with a Padua master's degree and one from the host university.

Under the 2026/27 fee call, non-EU students whose family lives abroad pay a fixed yearly fee that is not recalculated on income, and it is lower for citizens of countries on the ministry's list of particularly poor countries.
An ISEE parificato only reduces the regional tax. Students who win the Veneto regional scholarship are exempt, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students, and applicants abroad are also considered for merit scholarships and fee waivers.
