About the programme

Electrical Engineering is a two-year master's degree in class LM-28, taught in English in Padua by the Department of Industrial Engineering within the School of Engineering. It carries 120 ECTS and has open admission with requirements.

The course starts from the role of electricity in economic and social development and trains engineers for the generation, transport, management and use of electrical energy. It prepares professionals who can handle complex design problems and drive technological innovation in power electronics, electrical drives, machine design, electromagnetic engineering, measurement techniques and digital signal processing. It suits graduates in electrical, energy, electronic or mechatronics engineering.

What you will study

Four units are common to both tracks: Static Power Converters and Applications, Electrical Power Systems, Electrical Measurements and Computational Electrical Engineering. You then choose Machines and Drives for Industry and Mobility or Green Technologies and Energy Infrastructures. Track units include:

  • Design of Electrical Machines (Machines and Drives)
  • Applied Control of Electric Drives and Converters (Machines and Drives)
  • Road Electric Vehicles (Machines and Drives)
  • Industrial Electromagnetic Compatibility (Machines and Drives)
  • Power Plants for Energy Generation (Green Technologies)
  • Technologies for HVAC and HVDC Transmission Systems (Green Technologies)
  • Renewable Electric Energy Conversion and Storage (Green Technologies)
  • Nuclear Plants (Green Technologies)

Other track units cover computer-assisted electromagnetic design, measurements on electrical machines and plants, electrical and electromagnetic micro and nanodevices, electroheat technologies for sustainability and systems for automation.

Career paths

The admissions portal lists the fields where graduates of the degree work:

  • Generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy
  • Manufacturing of electrical machines and power equipment
  • Design of transportation systems
  • Industrial automation
  • Electricity markets

The course page adds universities, research institutions and organisations that manage conventional or innovative electricity generation systems, networks and devices.

Fees and scholarships

Electrical Engineering sits in fee Group B, the band for scientific and engineering degrees. For 2026/27, a non-EU student whose household lives outside Italy pays a fixed €2,990 a year, or €996.66 when coming from a country on the ministry's list of particularly poor countries; an ISEE parificato affects only the regional tax. The Veneto regional scholarship waives the fee for winners, giving zero euro tuition for eligible students, and applicants living abroad are considered for merit fee waivers. See the fees page.

How to apply from outside the EU

Applications go through apply.unipd.it: upload your transcript, degree certificate, CV, motivation letter and English certificate and pay €60. Legalisation is not required to apply. For 2027/28, non-EU applicants living abroad have two windows, 15 September to 15 November 2026 and 1 December 2026 to 1 March 2027, and can apply to this programme once per year.

If admitted, you confirm your place with the €208 admission fee, pre-enrol on Universitaly and apply for a type D study visa. By 31 August 2027 you need your degree and transcript legalised, apostilled or verified by CIMEA.

How ApplyAZ helps

If this programme fits your goals, ApplyAZ can include it in a shortlist of 20 to 30 English-taught programmes at Italian public universities. We write your CV and a tailored statement of purpose, submit your applications and Universitaly pre-enrolment, file your DSU scholarship application and prepare your visa file, with a named person on each stage. The university decides admission, the region decides the scholarship and the consulate decides the visa. See how ApplyAZ works or check your eligibility.
