Qualifying degree routes
Applicants need a qualification valid for a master’s degree. The listed Italian chemistry route is L-27 Chemical Sciences/Technology or former class 21. A foreign award must be recognised as suitable by the teaching board. A non-chemistry first degree can qualify through the stated chemistry-subject and laboratory preparation, rather than the title of the degree alone. [1, 2]
Chemistry credits and the laboratory component
The alternative curricular route requires at least 60 CFU in the four chemistry disciplines, with at least 15 CFU in each. The laboratory requirement is included within those 60 credits; it is not an additional 24 credits on top. Equivalent foreign lesson/laboratory workload is assessed by the board. [1, 2]

The current programme rules require a certificate demonstrating English at least B2, or at least 3 CFU of English-language learning activities earned in previous university study. The English page permits equivalent instruction hours. Preparation assessment and the 92/110 wording difference
All applicants must register for the admission/preparation assessment by the university’s deadline, including those exempt from an interview. The commission evaluates the complete prior academic career, subject programmes and language evidence, and can request a remote interview where needed. The current Italian requirements and enrolment instructions exempt qualifying Italian chemistry graduates with a mark of at least 92/110, including degrees from any Italian university. [1, 3]
The 2026/27 English requirements page uses “higher than 92/110”, while the Italian current rules use at least 92/110. The latter supplies the inclusive threshold in this section; for a candidate with exactly 92, we confirm the exemption with the commission in writing, and the candidate must still register for assessment. This threshold defines an exemption, not a universal minimum grade rejecting all other suitable applicants. Foreign awards still require academic evaluation. [1-3]
Current assessment dates and pending graduation
For applicants with Italian entry qualifications, the updated 2026/27 assessment dates are 15 September 2026 and 27 October 2026. These replace the older English admission page’s 2025 dates. The registration deadline is set by the university procedure; a test date alone is not an application deadline. Applicants not yet graduated need at least 150 CFU by the assessment-registration deadline and a positive evaluation. The updated instructions allow conditional enrolment with the qualifying degree obtained by 31 March of the following calendar year, therefore 31 March 2027 for the stated 2026/27 route. Foreign-degree application and supporting documents
We apply through the international admission portal with identity, the qualifying degree/available pending-degree records, complete transcript, language evidence and the additional programme documents needed to demonstrate subject and laboratory work. The €35 fee is paid and the application submitted; saving an unfinished form is not submission. The 2026/27 non-restricted foreign-degree windows have all passed; the last was 1-8 September 2026 and limited to EU applicants and non-EU residents in Italy. Earlier March/June non-EU-abroad access depended on available places. The October domestic assessment does not create a fresh international visa application window. About the programme
Chemistry (Chimica) is a two-year master's degree in class LM-54-R, run by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Pavia.
The degree is officially bilingual: four of its five curricula are taught in Italian, while the Bio- and Nanomaterials curriculum is delivered entirely in English and is the route open to students who do not speak Italian.

How the programme is taught
The two first-year laboratory courses account for 18 ECTS and 216 hours of bench work.
The experimental thesis carries 39 ECTS in the second year and is supervised by a University of Pavia faculty member; it can be written and defended in English, with an abstract in Italian.
Placements in Italy or abroad are possible on request, and the regulations provide an LM+ scheme in which the thesis can be linked to a training placement with a host company.
Study periods abroad normally last 3 to 10 months. Students with a foreign degree include a 3 ECTS Italian language course in the second year unless they can show Italian proficiency.
