School-leaving requirement
You need an upper secondary school diploma, or equivalent, after at least 12 years of schooling, that gives access to higher education. Under the 2026/27 call it had to be obtained by 31 July 2026, and for 2027/28 you must complete your school studies by 31 July 2027. [1][3]
Padua publishes country-specific rules for foreign qualifications, valid for 2027/28, and its Admissions and Welcome Unit decides whether your qualification meets them: [3]
- India: a Standard XII diploma: the CBSE All India Senior School Certificate or the CISCE Indian School Certificate, each with at least 5 subjects, an Intermediate Examination Certificate, a Higher Secondary School Certificate or a Higher Secondary Examination Certificate Part II.
- Pakistan: a Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) or an Intermediate School Certificate.
- Bangladesh: a Higher Secondary Certificate with a final result of Second Division or higher.
- Sri Lanka: the GCE Advanced Level with at least an Ordinary Pass (S) in 3 subjects and at least 30% in the Common General Test.
- United Kingdom: GCE A levels in 3 subjects passed at grade E or above; AS levels are not considered.
The call sets no minimum school grade, because places are ranked on the entry test. [1]
What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rules above:
- Usually a fit: a Class 12 result from CBSE, CISCE or a state Higher Secondary or Intermediate board in India, an HSSC in Pakistan, or three full A levels, as these are the qualifications Padua lists. No particular stream is named.
- Check carefully: a CBSE or ISC certificate with fewer than 5 subjects, a Bangladeshi HSC below Second Division, or Sri Lankan A levels without 3 passes or 30% in the Common General Test. Biology and maths matter too: in 2026/27, a score below 4 out of 10 in either test section brought an extra learning requirement after enrolment.
- Often short: a Class 10 certificate, O levels or AS levels on their own, which do not appear among the listed entry qualifications.

English at CEFR level B2 or equivalent. Accepted certificates for 2027/28 include IELTS Academic or General Training 6.0, TOEFL iBT 86 (or 4.5 for tests taken from 21 January 2026), Cambridge B2 First 173, PTE Academic 65, Duolingo English Test 115, Trinity ISE II and LanguageCert B2 Communicator. Certificates with no expiry date count if obtained within two years of 15 September 2026. [4]
You do not need a certificate if you are a native speaker from one of the listed English-speaking countries, completed your previous education entirely in English in one of those countries or in the EU or Schengen area, or hold an IB diploma, European Baccalaureate, GCE or US high school diploma with 3 AP exams scored 3 to 5, taken in English. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are not on the country list. [4]

Entry test and ranking
For 2026/27, places were ranked on the English PSY test, an online test run by CISIA. The 2027/28 portal confirms an online entry test in English, with details to follow. [1][2]
- 50 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes: reading comprehension, basic mathematics, biology, verbal reasoning and numerical reasoning, 10 questions each.
- 1 point for a correct answer, minus 0.25 for a wrong one and 0 for a blank. You need at least 10 out of 50 to be ranked.
- Ties are broken by the reading, verbal and numerical reasoning sections, then maths, then biology, then the youngest candidate.
- You sit it from home with a desktop or laptop, a stable connection, a suitable room and a second device for Zoom supervision. In 2026/27, non-EU candidates sat it on 26 or 31 March, on a date assigned by the university.
- If the results show anomalies, the programme may hold an interview, and missing it or not passing can exclude you.
- A score below 4 out of 10 in maths or biology brings an additional learning requirement (OFA) after enrolment.
Deadlines
For 2027/28, non-EU candidates living outside Italy apply on apply.unipd.it from 7 January to 7 March 2027 (23:59 Central European Time), and studies start on 1 October 2027. You can apply for a programme only once per academic year. [2]

- official translations into Italian or English if your documents are in another language

You pay a €60 application fee and can apply to at most two programmes. Selected candidates accept by paying a non-refundable admission fee: €205 in the 2026/27 call and €208 on the 2027/28 portal. Candidates without their diploma or English proof are admitted conditionally. To complete enrolment, you submit your diploma legalised by the Italian embassy or consulate, an apostille or a CIMEA statement of verification, and CIMEA's statement of comparability may also be requested. About the programme
Psychological Science is a three-year, 180 ECTS bachelor's degree in class L-24-R (psychological sciences and techniques), delivered entirely in English by the School of Psychology in Padua and managed by the Department of General Psychology. Enrolment is limited: for 2027/28 there are 45 places for non-EU candidates living outside Italy, the same number as in 2026/27. [1][2]
The degree gives basic knowledge of all the main areas of psychology (general, social and dynamic) together with research methods. Theoretical study and experimental and clinical activities carry equal weight, and seminars and workshops build strong foundations in brain and behaviour, developmental psychology, social psychology and communication, clinical psychology and health psychology. School of Psychology degrees are in fee Group B. For 2026/27, non-EU students whose household lives outside Italy pay a fixed €2,990 a year, or €996.66 if they are citizens of a country on the ministry's list of particularly poor countries. The ISEE parificato only lowers the regional tax. Students eligible in the regional scholarship rankings are exempt from the fee, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students. Places are assigned through a ranking list based on an online entry test in English. In 2026/27 this was the English PSY test, run online by CISIA, and you needed at least 10 out of 50 to be ranked.
