- A first-level degree in information engineering: class L-8 (or class 9 under the older Italian system).
- Any bachelor's or higher degree with at least 60 CFU in these subject sectors: 12 CFU in mathematical analysis (MAT/05), 6 in geometry (MAT/03), 15 in physics or chemistry (FIS/01, FIS/03 or CHIM/07), 6 in electrical engineering (ING-IND/31), 9 in electronics (ING-INF/01) and 12 in computer science or information engineering (INF/01 or ING-INF/02 to 07).
The course council can approve equivalent subject sectors. A foreign degree must be judged suitable under the university's teaching regulations, and the committee that reviews it may ask for extra credits before you enrol. [1][4]

What this means for your transcript
Italian CFU and the credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit: one CFU stands for 25 hours of student work, and the committee looks at your subjects, not just your total. [1] As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electronics and Communication, Electronics and Instrumentation, or Electrical and Electronics Engineering with solid maths and physics.
- Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science or IT, which often covers maths and computing but can fall short on the 9 electronics and 6 electrical engineering credits, or a B.Sc. in Electronics, which needs the full 18 maths credits.
- Often short: a BCA, a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics, or a B.Com, BBA or BA, which usually lack the electrical and electronics blocks.
The 90/110 threshold is set on the Italian scale, and the regulations do not say how foreign grades convert, so we check how your grade is likely to be read. [1]
English
You must use English fluently, in writing and speaking, including technical vocabulary. [1] Non-EU applicants upload a language certificate at B2 or higher, or a Medium of Instruction certificate from their university, and the coordinator's interview also assesses English. [2]
UniPa's language page for English-taught programmes lists accepted certificates, including IELTS Academic with at least 5.5, TOEFL iBT with at least 72 and PTE with at least 46, and exempts holders of a degree taught entirely in English. [3]
Preparation check and interview
There is no written entrance test, and access is open, so places are not capped. A bachelor's with a final grade of at least 90/110 counts as proof of adequate preparation. With a lower grade, you can be admitted only after a positive interview on your technical and scientific preparation, held by a committee the course council appoints. [1]
For non-EU applicants, the administrative office checks your documents, then the course coordinator evaluates them and issues an admission letter. The coordinator then holds a personal knowledge interview on your academic preparation, motivation and English, and your application is on hold until the outcome is confirmed. [2]
Applying before you graduate
The regulations allow conditional enrolment, even after the academic year has started, for final-year bachelor's students with at least 140 credits who meet the subject rules and will graduate by the extraordinary session of the previous academic year. Their preparation is judged on their weighted average mark, scaled to 110. [1] The non-EU procedure asks for a copy of your bachelor's degree, so we check the timing for your case. [2]
2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, non-EU applicants living abroad had to create their UniPa portal application by 20 July 2026 and start their Universitaly application by 4 August 2026. Visa procedures for that intake must be completed by 30 November 2026. The 2027/28 dates are not yet published. [2]

Laboratory work completes the lectures, and the core electronics unit has its own lab module. The degree offers internships at companies that have agreements with it, open to students and to graduates within 18 months.
