About the programme

Industrial and Information Engineering is a three-year, 180 ECTS bachelor's degree run by the Department of Engineering of the University of Palermo and, according to its 2026/27 study plan, delivered entirely in English. It started in 2026/27, so only the first year is active so far. Access is open, and teaching takes place in Palermo.

The degree is registered in two classes, L-8 R (information engineering) and L-9 R (industrial engineering), under course codes 2492 and 2493, which share one study plan and one coordinator, Professor Valentina Cosentino. It trains young professionals with basic and multidisciplinary skills across industrial and information engineering, with reference to safety, security, automation and the management of processes that produce, distribute and deliver goods and services.

What you will study

The first two years build a common base in mathematics, physics and computing and then in the core engineering subjects. Compulsory units in the 2026/27 study plan include:

• Year 1: Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Geometry and Computer-Aided Design
• Year 2: Economics for Engineers, Electrotechnics and Fundamentals of Structures
• Year 2: Mechanics and Automatic Controls, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer
• Year 2: Electronics and Signal Processing
• Year 3: Materials Technologies and Digital Manufacturing
• Year 3: Measurements

How the programme is taught

From the second year you shape your own profile through three groups of optional courses worth 30 credits in total, plus 12 credits of free-choice subjects. The options cover electrical, electronic and automation engineering; mechanical, aerospace and management engineering; energy and nuclear engineering; and chemical, biochemical and biomedical engineering. Examples include Internet Networks, Principles of Aerodynamics, Project Management, Fundamentals of Renewable Energies, Embedded Systems, Electrical Power Systems, Lightweight Structures, Transport Phenomena, Robotics Fundamentals and Nuclear Reactors.

The plan also includes 3 credits of language skills and 3 credits of other training activities. The degree ends with a 3-credit final examination, an oral test of your maturity and critical ability.

Career paths

The university presents the degree as training for young professionals who can work across industrial and information engineering, especially on safety, security, automation and the management of production, distribution and delivery of goods and services. A bachelor's in class L-8 or L-9 is also the entry requirement UniPa lists for its English-taught master's in Automation and Systems Engineering, one possible next step.

Fees and scholarships

Bachelor's students pay under the same UniPa fee rules as everyone else. For 2026/27, non-EU students living abroad choose a fixed fee by country list, €211 (List B2A), €267 (List B2B) or €378 (other countries), each including €156 of regional tax and stamp duty, or an income-based fee of €156 plus a variable part set with an ISEE parificato; see the fees page. How to apply from outside the EU

You need at least 12 years of schooling and a secondary school leaving qualification. On the UniPa student portal you upload your passport, a photo, your high school diploma translated into Italian or English, your transcript, an English B2 or Medium of Instruction certificate and a CV. The office reviews the file and the course coordinator makes the academic evaluation before any admission letter.

For 2026/27 the portal deadline was 20 July 2026, Universitaly pre-enrolment closed on 30 August 2026, visa procedures had to be completed by 30 November 2026 and enrolment by 22 December 2026, with a declaration of value or CIMEA statements.
