Bologna's Building Construction Engineering bachelor has limited places. You need a school-leaving qualification from at least 12 years of schooling, a CEnT-S score for the first and second selections (or a SAT score for any extraordinary session) and an English certificate at B2 or higher. School-leaving requirement
You need a secondary school qualification that gives access to university. A foreign qualification must come from at least 12 years of schooling and be recognised under the Italian rules for 2026/27. [1]
You can apply before you finish school, but you must obtain your diploma by 31 December 2026, or your enrolment is cancelled. [1]
What this means for your school results
The call sets no required school subjects and no minimum grade. Your rank in the admission test decides your place. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: Class 12, Higher Secondary (HSC or HSSC) or A level results that complete 12 years of schooling.
- Check carefully: diplomas taken after Class 10, such as a polytechnic diploma, where we check the total years of schooling and how the qualification is recognised.
- Often short: a school-leaving qualification from fewer than 12 years of schooling.
Maths matters for the ranking and after you enrol: a CEnT-S Mathematics score below 8 out of 15 adds an extra maths requirement (OFA), to be passed by 31 March 2028. [1]

You need an English certificate at CEFR B2 or higher, uploaded with your application. Accepted examples include IELTS Academic 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, Cambridge B2 First, and IGCSE English as a Second Language at grades A* to C with all four modules. IELTS and Cambridge results are valid for three years and TOEFL for two, counted to the application date. [1]
Without a valid certificate you are ranked as not eligible. For the extraordinary SAT session, the amendment treats the SAT as meeting the English requirement. [2]
Admission test and ranking
The first and second selections use the CEnT-S, CISIA's English-language test with 55 questions in Mathematics, Reasoning on texts and data, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Only Mathematics, Reasoning on texts and data, and Physics count towards the ranking. Non-EU applicants living abroad can sit it online from home (CEnT@HOME) for their reserved places, after registering with CISIA. [1][4]
Any extraordinary session uses the SAT instead and ranks applicants by SAT result, with scores sent to Bologna through the College Board using code 6993. A SAT Mathematics score below 320 out of 800 adds the same extra maths requirement. [1]

An amendment brought the extraordinary SAT session forward and opened it to non-EU applicants living abroad. Applications ran from 22 July to 26 August 2026, for SAT tests taken between 1 January 2025 and 10 August 2026, with the ranking on 8 September 2026. [2][3]

Application, Universitaly and enrolment
The application is made on Studenti Online with a passport or ID and the English certificate. One application also covers later selections in the same year. Your CEnT-S result is usually retrieved automatically. [1][4]
Non-EU applicants living abroad also complete Universitaly pre-enrolment for this programme. At enrolment they upload their school qualification and study visa and pay the first fee instalment, then show the originals on arrival. [1]

About the programme
Building Construction Engineering is a three-year bachelor's degree in class L-23-R (building sciences), delivered entirely in English on the Ravenna campus of the University of Bologna by the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering (DICAM). It is worth 180 ECTS and has restricted access with an entrance test.
The university presents it as an international path between engineering and architecture to design, build and restore buildings. It trains engineers who work as designers and managers of the design, production and use of buildings and infrastructure, with special attention to the recovery and restoration of existing buildings. It suits students who enjoy maths and physics and also want a design-led, hands-on training.

The first year lays down mathematics, physics, chemistry of materials, geology and technical drawing. How the programme is taught
Teaching mixes lectures with laboratory courses, such as the Typological and Morphological Characters Lab and the Building Design Research Lab, and uses the teaching laboratories of the Ravenna campus. Students can spend time abroad through Erasmus and Overseas exchanges.
Career paths
The degree prepares building-works designers and technicians who can manage and coordinate professional and business structures, working as project managers on the design, construction and management of buildings and infrastructure. Graduates can also continue to a second-cycle degree or a first-level university master's.

Fees follow family income (ISEE), with the lowest band for an ISEE of €27,000 or less, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.
