Trieste Mathematics is English-taught under the 2026/27 regulation. Admission uses either the mathematics/physics degree-class route or at least 36 mathematics credits, with a grade-dependent preparation evaluation and English B2 before enrolment. The current regulation takes priority where webpage wording differs. Sources were reviewed on 6 October 2026. [1-5]

Two academic entry routes

Applicants need a suitable bachelor’s degree or recognised equivalent. The first route accepts L-35 Mathematics or L-30 Physical Sciences and Technologies, including former classes 32 and 25. The alternative requires a suitable first-cycle degree with at least 36 CFU in MATH-* sectors. Foreign qualifications require recognition relative to those classes or university conversion showing the equivalent eligible mathematics credits. [1, 2]

Applicants lacking the required mathematics credits must obtain the prescribed missing credits before enrolment, including through individual courses and passed examinations. Work experience, programming projects or a quantitative degree title do not automatically replace the stated 36-credit condition. [1]

80/110 threshold applies to the named mathematics/physics route

For applicants meeting the first degree-class route, a final grade of at least 80/110 attests adequate preparation. Applicants with that degree route and a grade at or below 79/110, and all applicants using only the alternative 36-credit route, undergo committee assessment of the curriculum and course programmes. The possible outcome is admission or rejection. English and other entry conditions remain necessary even where preparation is attested by the grade. [1]

The 80/110 threshold is not a universal admission minimum and does not automatically exempt a graduate of any other subject who has 36 mathematics credits. The university evaluates a foreign final mark in its recognition and assessment process, so it is not converted automatically for admission. [1, 2]

English B2 before enrolment and conflicting webpage timing

The current regulation explicitly requires fluent written/spoken English at least B2 and says that candidates who have not already acquired it must do so before enrolment. The course webpage recognises explicit university attestation of a degree-acquired level and AICLU-listed certification, but also mentions CLA acquisition after enrolment. That later timing conflicts with the current regulation. Article 5 states that teaching is in English, with Advanced Mathematics, Computational Mathematics and Modelling, and Mathematical Education curricula. The university’s Italian certification rules for visa applicants cover Italian or mixed-language degrees; for this programme, its documented English delivery and course-specific language conditions apply. Course clearance and complete Esse3 file

The course procedure starts with registration for its preparation-assessment competition in Esse3. The upload includes valid identity evidence, the prescribed degree/examination self-declaration for the applicable Italian record, the course’s Excel self-assessment questionnaire and language evidence. Foreign applicants also submit the official records required for qualification evaluation; an Italian self-declaration does not replace foreign evidence that the office requires. Final enrolment follows the admissions office’s email confirming the outcome. [2-4]

Final enrolment includes the course’s supplementary form, identity document where required, Italian fiscal-code evidence, a compliant JPEG identity photograph and applicable language/immigration documents. Non-EU applicants supply the residence permit or application receipt as instructed. Pay the first instalment and complete the final confirmation. Pending-degree candidates can begin the stated conditional procedure and attend teaching, but the enrolment/student number is finalised only after the degree and complete documentation are supplied. 2026/27 ordinary dates versus international rounds

The current course page lists preparation-evaluation requests from 20 April 2026 to 29 January 2027 and final enrolment from 20 April 2026 to the strict limit of 31 March 2027. These are ordinary course dates. They do not replace the earlier foreign-qualification assessment periods, and a visa applicant cannot rely on starting a new file in March. [2, 3]

The central international page, updated 2 October 2026, gives assessment rounds of 15 December 2025 to 15 January 2026 and 15 February to 30 April 2026, followed by a round restricted to EU/EU-equivalent applicants ending 2 October 2026. All listed international rounds have passed as of this review. The assessment charge is €40 and covers up to three programme applications. No new 2027/28 intake date is established in these sources. Foreign-degree documents, translation and recognition

The qualifying foreign first-cycle award must grant access to comparable postgraduate study in its home system. The file includes the degree, an official transcript with grades and credit or hour information, and university-issued course descriptions. An EU-issued degree should be accompanied by its Diploma Supplement; a complete supplement can replace a separate transcript. Internet printouts are not accepted as official course descriptions. [4]

Documents issued outside Italian/English need translation into one of those languages. The central page requires legalisation/apostille with its named country exemptions and delivery of originals according to office instructions. It says a Declaration of Value is not routinely necessary; CIMEA comparability may be requested in special cases. Qualification correspondence and the programme’s actual subject-credit evaluation are separate checks. For open-access programmes, the required records are completed before enrolment. [4]

Which degree classes meet the first curricular route?
