Global Law Making (GLaM) is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree taught in English by the Faculty of Law at the University of Trento. It trains jurists in global, digital and environmental law and legal drafting. Fees for non-EU students follow the admission score, so it can be tuition-free for eligible students.
Entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree in law (Italian class L-14), or another degree with at least 27 ECTS in legal subjects; the committee assesses foreign degrees from your study record.
- English at B2 level, shown by a recognised certificate or a degree taught entirely in English; the committee may interview you to check your level.
- A CV in English in the European format, a statement of purpose in English (up to 4,000 characters), degree certificate, transcript with grading scale and passport.
- No written test: the committee scores your file out of 100 and may ask for more documents or an interview.
- UniTrento may ask holders of foreign degrees for a CIMEA statement of verification or comparability at enrolment.
About the programme
Global Law Making (GLaM) is a two-year laurea magistrale worth 120 ECTS, taught in English by the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento. Its Italian title is Scienze giuridiche applicate nella dimensione globale. The degree starts from a world where the roles of states and international organisations are changing and where ecological and digital transitions call for new rules.
It trains jurists who can analyse laws, give legal advice and draft and interpret legal texts in the public and private sectors. It suits law graduates, and graduates with a solid legal component, who want an international and interdisciplinary profile.
What you will study
Year one builds a common core in global and comparative law, regulation, technology and legal drafting. Year two combines political theory, electives and an 18 ECTS thesis. Units include:
- Major Issues in Global Law and Comparative Law and Methodology
- Law and Digital Technology (12 ECTS)
- Global Environment and Climate Change Law
- Global Law Drafting and Economic and Financial Regulation
- Advanced Legal Studies or Law and Ethics
- Contemporary Political Theory (year two)
- Electives such as Law and Ethics for AI, Global Labour Law and New Technologies, Transnational Criminal Law and Administrative Law beyond the State
How the programme is taught
Lessons are in person in Trento. Students strengthen their English to C1, and non-Italian speakers also reach Italian at A2 level. Internships with companies, institutions and organisations and a range of study abroad options are part of the degree. Through the Transnational GLaM Program you can spend two semesters at Washington University in St. Louis, at a reduced fee, and earn both the Italian master's degree and an American LL.M.
Career paths
Graduates take positions of responsibility in national and international institutions working on digital or environmental transitions. They work as legal experts in contract law, intellectual property, technology and AI law, privacy, environmental protection, legal drafting and project management, and as advisers, officials and consultants in public and private bodies. The degree also leads to PhD programmes in law, political and social sciences.
Fees and scholarships
GLaM is in fee group B of UniTrento's 2026/27 rules for non-EU students living abroad, with a yearly maximum of €10,000. The first-year fee follows the admission score: exemption from 90 points, otherwise €1,000, €3,000 or €6,500. Year two depends on credits gained by 10 August. Top-ranked applicants with 70 or more may win a UniTrento scholarship that includes a fee waiver, and Opera Universitaria di Trento runs income-based grants, so the degree can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
GLaM had 45 places for 2026/27, of which 15 were for non-EU citizens living abroad. The committee scored academic background (50 points), the statement of purpose (30) and the relevance of previous studies (20), with 50 out of 100 needed to be eligible.
Non-EU applications for 2026/27 ran on the UniTrento portal from 17 December 2025 to 4 March 2026 at 12:00 CET, with a €30 fee, and the ranking came by 30 April 2026. Admitted students pay €100 to confirm, complete Universitaly pre-enrolment and need a type D study visa by 30 September. The 2027/28 call has not been published.

Questions and answers
Is Global Law Making taught in English?
Yes. The course language is English and lessons are in person in Trento. You need English at B2 level to apply, and non-Italian speakers also take Italian up to A2 level during the degree.
Do I need a law degree?
A bachelor's in law is the standard route. Other graduates can apply with at least 27 ECTS in legal subjects, and the committee assesses foreign degrees from the courses you took.
Is there an entrance test?
There is no written test. The committee scores your academic record, statement of purpose and the relevance of your studies out of 100, and may ask for an interview. You need 50 points or more.
Can I earn a US LL.M. as well?
Yes, through the Transnational GLaM Program with Washington University in St. Louis: two semesters in Trento and two at WUSTL lead to both the Italian master's degree and an LL.M. It has its own call.
When can I apply for 2027/28?
The 2027/28 call is not out yet. As a guide, for 2026/27 non-EU applications closed on 4 March 2026 at 12:00 CET, with a €30 fee and 15 places for non-EU students.
How much are the fees?
In 2026/27 non-EU students paid nothing in year one with a score of 90 or more, otherwise €1,000, €3,000 or €6,500. UniTrento merit scholarships and Opera Universitaria grants can cover costs for eligible students.
