UniTrento's Global Law Making master asks for a bachelor's in law (Italian class L-14), another Italian degree with at least 27 credits in legal subjects, or a foreign bachelor's that the committee judges suitable from your curriculum, plus English at B2 and a merit score of at least 50 out of 100. Degree requirement
You need one of the following: [1]
- An Italian bachelor's in law (class L-14, Scienze giuridiche).
- An Italian bachelor's in another class with at least 27 CFU in legal sectors IUS/01, 02, 04, 05, 07, 08, 09, 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21. Missing credits can be earned up to the date of enrolment.
- A bachelor's or higher qualification from abroad recognised as equivalent. The admission committee judges whether it is suitable by examining the curriculum of studies you completed.
For 2026/27, non-EU applicants could apply before graduating if they obtained their bachelor's before 30 June 2026, declaring the expected graduation date in the application. For enrolment, UniTrento may ask holders of foreign qualifications for a CIMEA statement of verification or statement of comparability. [1]
What this means for your transcript
GLaM is built for law graduates. For degrees from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the committee reads your curriculum rather than counting Italian credits, so the amount of law you studied matters. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: an LLB, or an integrated BA LLB, BBA LLB or B.Com LLB, where most courses are legal subjects.
- Check carefully: a BA in Political Science, a B.Com or a BBA with courses such as constitutional, contract, company, tax or labour law. The committee decides whether that legal content is enough.
- Often short: a B.Tech, B.E., BCA or B.Sc. with little or no law.
English
English at CEFR level B2 or higher, shown in one of these ways: [1]
- A certificate from the list published by UniTrento's Language Centre. If you are still waiting for it, you can attach provisional proof that you passed the final exam.
- A B2 or higher English exam passed as part of your university studies, which can be certified and assessed all four language skills.
- A bachelor's or master's taught entirely in English, with certification attached to the application.
- Citizenship of a country where English is an official language, declared by self-certification.
The call does not list specific test scores. The committee may hold an interview to check your English. [1]
Selection and ranking
There is no written entrance test. A committee of three Faculty of Law teaching staff checks the entry requirements and scores your file out of 100: [1]
- Up to 50 points: academic background, including your degree grade, exam average, other academic and training activities, publications, professional, internship and volunteering experience and English skills.
- Up to 30 points: statement of purpose, judged on clarity, motivation, relevance to the course, English and originality.
- Up to 20 points: how relevant your previous studies and extracurricular activities, such as placements, summer schools and jobs, are to the aims of GLaM.
You need at least 50 out of 100 to be eligible. If your documents are not enough to assess you, the committee may ask for more, such as course syllabi, or call you for an interview in person or online. If scores are tied, the younger candidate ranks higher. [1]
2026/27 places and deadlines
For 2026/27 there were 45 places, 15 of them reserved for non-EU applicants living abroad. Non-EU applicants had one call, from 17 December 2025 to 4 March 2026 at noon CET. The non-EU ranking was due by 30 April 2026. The second call, from 15 April to 30 June 2026, was open only to Europeans and equivalents, and unused first-call places moved to it. [1]
Admitted non-EU students had to obtain their visa by 30 September 2026, with no extensions, and enrol by 31 October 2026. These are the 2026/27 dates. The 2027/28 call is not yet published and will set the new dates. [1]
Documents and non-EU steps
The online application needs: [1]
- a copy of your passport;
- your degree certificate, or a certificate of enrolment if you have not yet graduated;
- a transcript listing all exams, including any not yet taken if you are still studying, with your grades, weighted average and the minimum to maximum grade range of your system;
- a CV in English in the European format;
- your English certificate or other proof of English;
- a statement of purpose in English, up to 4,000 characters including spaces.
Documents not in English or Italian need an official translation. Once admitted, you confirm your place by the date given with the ranking. Admitted non-EU students then complete pre-enrolment with the Italian diplomatic mission in their country, which is mandatory for the study visa. [1]

About the programme
Global Law Making (GLaM) is a two-year laurea magistrale worth 120 ECTS, taught in English by the Faculty of Law of the University of Trento. [1][2] Its Italian title is Scienze giuridiche applicate nella dimensione globale. The degree starts from a world where the roles of states and international organisations are changing and where ecological and digital transitions call for new rules.
It trains jurists who can analyse laws, give legal advice and draft and interpret legal texts in the public and private sectors. It suits law graduates, and graduates with a solid legal component, who want an international and interdisciplinary profile.
What you will study
Year one builds a common core in global and comparative law, regulation, technology and legal drafting. Year two combines political theory, electives and an 18 ECTS thesis. [2] Units include:

- Law and Digital Technology (12 ECTS)
- Global Environment and Climate Change Law
- Global Law Drafting and Economic and Financial Regulation
- Advanced Legal Studies or Law and Ethics

How the programme is taught
Lessons are in person in Trento. Students strengthen their English to C1, and non-Italian speakers also reach Italian at A2 level. Internships with companies, institutions and organisations and a range of study abroad options are part of the degree. Through the Transnational GLaM Program you can spend two semesters at Washington University in St. Louis, at a reduced fee, and earn both the Italian master's degree and an American LL.M. The LL.M. certifies knowledge of US law but does not give access to the US bar exam. [2]
Career paths
Graduates take positions of responsibility in national and international institutions working on digital or environmental transitions. They work as legal experts in contract law, intellectual property, technology and AI law, privacy, environmental protection, legal drafting and project management, and as advisers, officials and consultants in public and private bodies. The degree also gives a solid basis for PhD programmes in law, political science and social sciences. [2]
Fees and scholarships
Under the 2026/27 call, the first-year fee for non-EU students living abroad followed the admission score: 90 or more brought a full tuition waiver, and lower scores meant a reduced fee. In year two, earning at least 42 CFU by 10 August 2027 brings a full waiver, and fewer credits mean a partial fee. [1]
UniTrento may also grant scholarships to top-ranked non-EU applicants who score at least 70. They come with a fee waiver, are paid only once you arrive and stay in Italy and cannot be combined with MAECI, Unicolor or Invest Your Talent in Italy scholarships. [1] Eligible students can also apply to Opera Universitaria di Trento. GLaM can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Do I need a law degree for Global Law Making at UniTrento?
