Bioengineering for Personalized Medicine is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (class LM-21) taught in English at the University of Trento's Rovereto site, run with the universities of Verona and Modena and Reggio Emilia. Entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree of at least three years in industrial or information engineering (Italian classes L-9 or L-8) or a recognised equivalent from abroad.

- No entrance test: your file is scored out of 100 on coherence (30), academic record (60) and languages (10), with a possible interview; 50 is the minimum.

Bioengineering for Personalized Medicine is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-21, biomedical engineering) worth 120 ECTS and taught entirely in English. The Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Trento runs it as an interuniversity degree with the University of Verona and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. What you will study
The first year builds engineering knowledge in mechanics, materials, computing, electronics and robotics, together with medical biology. In the second year you follow Digital Healthcare or Emerging and Sustainable Medical Technologies. Units include:

- A final project worth 18 ECTS
How the programme is taught
Besides lectures, teaching uses interactive case-study sessions, purpose-built laboratory activities, group research projects, visits to local companies and international seminars. Classes are small, and Erasmus+ and theses or projects abroad are possible.
Career paths
Graduates work for medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical developers, health and social services and public or private organisations. Roles listed by the department include biomedical product designer, clinical engineer, product manager, manufacturing operations manager, quality and safety manager in healthcare, and health information systems manager. A PhD or second-level master is also an option.
Fees and scholarships
Under the 2026/27 Industrial Engineering call, non-EU students living abroad pay by admission score: a full exemption at 90 or more, then €1,000, €2,000 or €4,500, up to a €6,000 yearly maximum. Year two depends on credits earned by 10 August. UniTrento scholarships for top-ranked applicants include a fee exemption, and Opera Universitaria di Trento offers income-based grants, so this programme can be tuition-free for eligible students.
How to apply from outside the EU
Applications go through UniTrento's call for the Department of Industrial Engineering masters. For 2026/27 there were 25 non-EU places, a minimum average of 23/30, and a deadline of 4 March 2026 at 12:00 CET, with a €30 fee. Rankings came by 20 May 2026.
Admitted students pay a €100 confirmation fee, pre-enrol on Universitaly within two weeks and apply for a type D study visa. The 2027/28 call is not published yet.
