Artificial Intelligence Systems is a two-year, 120 ECTS master's degree (class LM-32) taught in English at the University of Trento, with four curricula from robotics and computer vision to neurocognitive architectures. Non-EU fees follow the admission score, so it can be tuition-free for eligible students.
Entry requirements
- A bachelor's degree in information engineering, industrial engineering or computer science (Italian classes L-8, L-9 or L-31), or an equivalent foreign degree.
- Otherwise at least 36 ECTS in maths, physics, chemistry or statistics and 12 ECTS in computer science or computer engineering.
- Graduates from systems without ECTS are checked for calculus, linear algebra, discrete maths, probability and statistics, physics, programming, and algorithms and data structures.
- English at B2 level, shown by a recognised certificate, a university statement that your degree was taught in English, or citizenship of an English-speaking country.
- No entrance test: the committee scores your file out of 100, may interview you, and ranks candidates with 50 or more.

Artificial Intelligence Systems is a two-year master's degree (laurea magistrale, class LM-32, computer systems engineering) worth 120 ECTS and taught in English by the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento. What you will study
All students share a first-year core, then follow one of four curricula: Methodologies and Applications (with paths in Computer Vision, Methodologies, Intelligent Robots, or Humans and AI), AI and Innovation, Systems (focused on AI for environment and sustainability) or Neurocognitive Architectures. Units in the current plan include:
- Machine Learning (12 ECTS) and Foundations of Artificial Intelligence (12 ECTS)
- Natural Language Understanding and Deep Learning Lab (6 ECTS each)
- Automated Reasoning, Introduction to Robotics and Automatic Control
- Markov Decision Processes and Reinforcement Learning
- Law and Ethics in Artificial Intelligence
- Curriculum units such as Advanced Computer Vision, Foundation Models, and Foundations of Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience
- An internship (6 ECTS) and a thesis (24 ECTS)
How the programme is taught
Alongside lectures, the course relies on laboratory activities, hands-on projects, seminars by researchers and industry leaders, and internships. You can also join the EMotion Artificial Intelligence specialists for Europe (EMAI4EU) double degree, spending a year in Trento and a year at a partner university, with an EIT Label certificate on graduation.

The university points graduates to companies that design, build and run intelligent systems; manufacturing, agri-food and logistics firms using AI, robotics and automation; biomedical device makers; self-driving vehicle projects; embedded systems and digital platform developers; software engineering companies; and public and private research centres. Fees and scholarships
AI Systems belongs to UniTrento's fee group B for non-EU students living abroad (2026/27). A first-year admission score of 90 or more brings a full exemption; lower bands pay €1,000, €3,000 or €6,500, and second-year fees depend on credits. Scholarships go to top-ranked applicants scoring 70 or more and include a fee exemption, while Opera Universitaria di Trento awards income-based grants. The degree can be tuition-free for eligible students.

Places for non-EU applicants living abroad numbered 60 in 2026/27, with 20 reserved for EIT programme candidates. The committee weighed coherence with the degree (30 points), academic record (65) and extra languages (5).
