Trento's Computer, Communications and Electronic Engineering bachelor asks non-EU applicants for a school-leaving diploma after at least 12 years of schooling that gives access to university at home, and a CEnT-S score of at least 16 out of 45. School-leaving requirement
You need a secondary school diploma, already obtained or due by 31 July 2026 for the 2026/27 intake, that the university considers suitable. For a foreign diploma this means: [1]
- At least 12 years of schooling in total; if your system has fewer, the gap can be covered with the documents set by the Italian ministry's rules
- You attended at least the last two years of the school system that issued the diploma
- The diploma gives access to a similar university course in your own country; a technical or vocational diploma that does not is not valid in Italy either
- If your country requires an academic aptitude test for university entry, such as the Gaokao in China, proof that you passed it
Non-EU applicants must also turn 18 by 30 September 2026. UniTrento checks foreign diplomas only after admission and pre-enrolment, and may ask for a statement of verification or comparability. [1]
What this means for your school results
As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: an Indian Class 12 certificate (CBSE, ISC or a state board) with Physics, Chemistry and Maths, a Pakistani HSSC (FSc Pre-Engineering), a Bangladeshi HSC in science or Sri Lankan GCE A levels in maths and science. These complete 12 years of schooling, and the CEnT-S tests the same subjects.
- Check carefully: Class 12 or an equivalent without Maths or Physics. The diploma can still qualify, but the CEnT-S maths and physics sections carry much of your score.
- Often short: a technical or vocational diploma that does not give access to university in your country, or a qualification where you attended only the final year of that school system.
Your school marks are not used for the ranking: only your CEnT-S score counts. [1]
English
No English certificate is needed to apply, and the CEnT-S itself is taken in English. After enrolling, you must pass an English proficiency test at the level set by the degree regulations within the first year. [1]
CEnT-S entrance test and ranking
Non-EU applicants must take the CEnT-S (CISIA English Test, Sciences). You register on the CISIA website and can sit it at home (CEnT@casa) or at a participating Italian university (CEnT@UNI). [1]
- UniTrento uses four sections and leaves out Biology: Mathematics (15 questions), Reasoning on texts and data (15), Chemistry (10) and Physics (5), 45 questions in 90 minutes
- Each correct answer scores 1 point, a blank 0 and a wrong answer minus 0.25; CISIA then normalises the score for the difficulty of each sitting
- The minimum score for admission is 16 out of 45
- You can sit it once per period, November 2025 to January 2026 and February to March 2026, and the best score up to 31 March 2026 counts
The ranking runs from the highest CEnT-S score down. For 2026/27 the English curriculum had 25 first-session places for non-EU applicants and 25 for EU and equivalent applicants. For fees and scholarships, your score is converted to a mark out of 100, with 16 out of 45 equal to 50. [1]

Non-EU applicants living abroad could apply only in the first session, because of the time needed for pre-enrolment and visas. [1]

About the programme
Computer, Communications and Electronic Engineering (ICE) is a three-year bachelor's degree (laurea, class L-8 R Ingegneria dell'informazione) worth 180 ECTS, run by the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Trento. The degree is offered in Italian and in English: the Curriculum in English has its own study plan, and every unit in its 2026/27 plan is taught in English.
The course brings three areas of information engineering into one degree: computer engineering, communications engineering and electronic engineering. It suits school leavers with a strong interest in maths and physics who want to design software, networks and electronic devices, and who learn best by building things.
What you will study
The first year of the Curriculum in English lays the scientific base, the second covers the core of the three engineering areas, and the third is mostly electives, with an internship and a final project. Within the degree you can follow a general path or lean towards computer, communications or electronics engineering. Units in the official plan include:
- Calculus 1 (12 ECTS), Calculus 2, and Geometry and Linear Algebra
- Computer Programming 1 and 2 and Physics (12 ECTS), plus Probability
- Processing Systems, Fundamentals of Communications and Fundamentals of Electronics (12 ECTS each), with Physics 2
- Business Organisation and Management
- Track units such as Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Multimedia Technologies, Advanced Logic Design and Databases
- An internship (9 ECTS), free-choice courses (12 ECTS) and a final project (6 ECTS)
How the programme is taught
The department describes the course as strongly project-based: lectures are paired with lab work, and you design equipment and software, including team projects in areas such as machine learning, robotics and autonomous systems. The third-year internship is often done with partner companies and organisations, and thesis work can include research periods outside the university.
Career paths
Graduates can work as technicians in software systems, information processing systems, telecommunications and electronics, or as developers of embedded hardware and software. After passing the Italian State examination they can register as a junior information engineer. The degree also gives direct access to UniTrento master's degrees such as Computer Science, Information Engineering, Artificial Intelligence Systems and Data Science.
Fees and scholarships
For non-EU students living abroad on UniTrento's English-taught bachelor's degrees, fees are merit-based. For 2026/27 the call set the first-year fee by your admission score, converted to a mark out of 100, and a mark of 90 or more brings a full exemption. [1] Merit scholarships for non-EU students (€8,500 a year for women in STEM, €7,200 otherwise, with a fee waiver) are available, and eligible students can also apply to Opera Universitaria di Trento.
How to apply from outside the EU
Non-EU applicants living abroad can apply only in the first session, for the English curriculum. For 2026/27 the application on the UniTrento portal closed on 23 March 2026, and your CEnT-S had to be taken by 31 March 2026, with registration through CISIA. There were 25 places for this group.
If admitted, you pre-enrol at UniTrento, we complete Universitaly pre-enrolment, and you apply for a type D study visa, which for 2026/27 had to be obtained by 31 October 2026. The 2027/28 call is not published yet.

I studied Class 12 without Maths. Can I apply?
Possibly, if your diploma completes 12 years of schooling and gives access to university in your country. The call sets no subject list, but the CEnT-S tests maths, physics and chemistry, so a competitive score is much harder without maths. We check your file first. [1]
What can I do after graduating?
You can work as a technician in software, telecommunications or electronics, or as an embedded systems developer, and register as a junior information engineer after the State examination. You can also continue to UniTrento master's degrees such as Computer Science or Information Engineering.
