Entry requirements

Detailed entry requirements

Entry to Physiotherapy at the University of Ferrara combines an eligible school qualification with the national health-professions selection procedure. The course admission page and university guidance establish the rules below; the annual call determines places, test arrangements and applicant deadlines. Sources reviewed on 6 October 2026. [1][2]

School qualification and starting knowledge

  • An Italian upper-secondary diploma is an eligible entry qualification. For a foreign qualification, the course page specifies twelve years of schooling and successful attendance for at least two years at the institution awarding the qualification. Recognition remains a university decision. [1]
  • The expected initial preparation includes general knowledge, analysis of written material and logical and mathematical reasoning. The course also checks the minimum school-level biology preparation needed for study. [1]

Selection, places and additional learning obligations

  • Physiotherapy has nationally regulated limited admission. Possessing the school qualification alone does not secure a place: applicants must follow the health-professions admission procedure and obtain a place within the available quota. The ministerial rules and annual university call govern test content and places. [1]
  • A biology knowledge deficit can lead to additional learning obligations, called OFA. The course page says these may be completed during the first year while attending the course. This remedial route does not remove the separate requirement to obtain admission through selection. [1]

International qualification documents

Ferrara's international checklist requires the original foreign school diploma, obtained after at least twelve years in the same education system, translated into Italian and duly legalised. Unless otherwise specified, foreign-language certificates require an official Italian translation. Where the awarding country's system requires a national university-entry examination, provide evidence of passing it. A Declaration of Value or CIMEA comparability and verification statements are required only if the university requests them. [2]

The checklist asks for language evidence where the admission procedure requires it. Original documents are checked for authenticity after arrival. Its published provisional-enrolment rule permits missing documentation to be completed by 31 January, provided the admission and language tests have been passed; failing to complete the documents ends enrolment. This administrative provision does not waive either admission test. [2]

  • Prepare the final school qualification and any country-required university-entry examination certificate. Keep originals and their Italian translations together. This is practical organisation advice; the university decides whether additional recognition evidence is needed.

Language and applicant category

The programme is taught in Italian. A foreign qualification evaluation, the language procedure and any visa pre-enrolment steps must be checked for the applicant's category. The cited course admission page does not set a universal IELTS or TOEFL threshold, and those English tests should not be treated as proof of Italian proficiency. [1][2]

Keep academic admission, any Italian-language check and immigration steps as separate checklist items. Record the current call's application deadline, ranking stage and enrolment deadline independently; a successful qualification evaluation does not complete these later stages.

Academic-year scope

The programme website identifies the 2026/27 course. Its standing admission page explains the qualification and selection framework, rather than supplying every annual date or a guaranteed future quota. Use the annual Physiotherapy and health-professions call for the relevant intake. Dates from an earlier intake must not be reused as the next intake's deadline. [1]

Sources and verification

  1. University of Ferrara, Fisioterapia: Accesso e immatricolazione, sections Modalità di accesso, Titolo richiesto per l'accesso, Ammissione and OFA; standing course guidance reviewed 6 October 2026.
  2. University of Ferrara, Documents and qualifications for university admission, last updated 18 December 2025, foreign diploma, Italian translation/legalisation, recognition evidence and provisional-enrolment rules; reviewed 6 October 2026.

Physiotherapy in Ferrara: language and admission

The University of Ferrara's three-year Physiotherapy degree is taught in Italian. It belongs to class L/SNT2 and has nationally restricted admission. If you need a degree taught entirely in English, check the language before adding this course to your shortlist.

The official Physiotherapy course page identifies the language and department for 2026/27. Use its course-unit and training links to understand the academic and practical commitments, rather than assuming an English website means English teaching.

What you will study

The university's Physiotherapy brochure describes specialist skills in musculoskeletal, neurological and visceral rehabilitation, alongside communication and management. Teaching combines classes, exercises and laboratories with placements in hospitals, rehabilitation centres and private practices.

The final theoretical and practical examination has the value of the Italian professional qualifying examination. If you intend to work in another country, check its recognition and registration requirements separately; an Italian qualification does not establish automatic recognition everywhere.

Entry requirements and selection

Ferrara accepts an Italian secondary-school diploma or an eligible foreign qualification. Its admission page describes a foreign school qualification obtained after twelve years of schooling. The university decides whether your documents satisfy its requirements.

You must follow the health-professions admission competition. Places, test arrangements and ranking procedures are governed by the official call. An initial document evaluation does not replace the entrance test or secure a place.

2026/27 application status

The 2026/27 health-professions admission page lists test registration from 14 August to 2 September 2026 and a test on 16 September. These dates have passed, so this is not an open application round.

Ferrara's international qualification procedure states that 2026/27 applications for non-EU students requiring a visa are closed. We check your applicant category and the next published intake before planning an application.

Funding and your budget

ER.GO is the regional student-support authority. Its annual call sets benefit conditions. Scholarship paperwork is separate from admission: plan for fees, accommodation and living costs while any funding decision is pending. A possible tuition waiver does not mean every cost is covered.

How ApplyAZ helps

We start with your qualifications, language preparation and study goals. If this Italian-taught route fits, we explain the documents and selection steps. If you need English teaching, we assess suitable alternatives rather than promising that this programme can be completed in English.

Your chosen service sets out our work on applications, documents, scholarship paperwork and visa-file preparation. You supply accurate records and complete required tests; the relevant authorities make the decisions. Read how ApplyAZ works, explore the Ferrara university guide or check your eligibility.

Questions and answers

What school qualification do I need?

An Italian upper-secondary diploma, or a suitable foreign qualification. The course page specifies twelve years of schooling and at least two successful years at the awarding institution for foreign qualifications. [1]

Is admission open to everyone?

No. Physiotherapy has nationally regulated limited admission. You must follow the health-professions selection procedure and obtain a place within the available quota. [1]

What preparation is expected?

General knowledge, written-text analysis, logical and mathematical reasoning, and school-level biology preparation are relevant to the admission and initial preparation checks. [1]

Can I study with a biology deficit?

After obtaining admission, an initial biology deficit may lead to OFA that must be completed during the first year. OFA do not replace admission selection. [1]

Is IELTS required?

The course is taught in Italian. The cited course admission page does not impose a universal IELTS or TOEFL score; check the Italian-language procedure for your applicant category. [1][2]

Which deadlines apply?

Use the annual health-professions admission call for your intake and applicant category. The standing course page does not establish a future intake's dates or guaranteed places. [1]
