Before you pay anyone in this city, ask them one question: how much money does an Italy student visa file need to show this year?
The correct answer is €10,179.85 for the academic year, set by the Italian Ministry of University and Research and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in their biennial circular covering 2026/2027 and 2027/2028. The previous figure was €6,947.33. That is a 46.5% jump. The circular also directs officials to examine where the money came from and whether the trail is traceable, not just whether the balance is sitting there on the day.
If the answer you get is "around six or seven lakh," that consultant is working from last year's notes, and your file will be built on them.
Do you file in Jalandhar, Chandigarh or Delhi?
You submit in Jalandhar. The decision is made in Delhi.
Punjab sits in the North consular jurisdiction, so the file goes to the Embassy of Italy, New Delhi, while submission happens at the Italy Visa Application Centre run by VFS Global at 3rd floor, Aman Plaza, Plot No 310, Lajpat Nagar, Mahavir Marg, Nakodar Chowk, Jalandhar 144001. The same jurisdiction covers Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh.
One condition catches people out: you must apply where you have been continuously resident for the past six months. A Jalandhar address on the form with a Pune rent agreement in the file is a jurisdiction problem, and rebooking does not fix it.
Can your consultant come inside the visa centre with you?
No. For long-stay "D" type applications at the New Delhi, Jalandhar and Chandigarh centres, only the applicant is allowed inside. Parents, relatives and agency staff wait outside.
So the person answering questions about your course, your sponsor's income and your plans after graduation is you, alone, unprompted. Any agency selling a package on the basis that they will handle it at the centre for you is describing something the rules do not allow.
The version of that service that exists: they build a file you can defend, then rehearse you until you can defend it.
How much money must you show, and how should it sit?
€10,179.85 covers living costs for the year. Tuition sits on top unless you hold a written fee waiver or scholarship award.
Accepted sources are a personal or family bank statement, a bank-certified guarantee from a sponsor, an education loan sanction letter, a scholarship award letter, or a combination. Combinations are normal.
What decides the file is the shape of the account, not the closing balance:
- The funds should have been there for months, not deposited three weeks before the appointment.
- Large credits need a document behind them. Property sale, matured FD, loan disbursal are all fine when the paper exists.
- A sponsor's income should be visible in ITRs. Agricultural income with no return filed is the most common weak point in Punjab sponsor files, and a year of planning fixes it.
- Money held in an uncle's or cousin's account needs relationship proof and a proper affidavit, or it needs to move.
What a complete file looks like
Use this as a test. A consultant who cannot walk you through every line of it is not building your file, they are forwarding it.
- Universitaly pre-enrolment confirmation, matching the admission letter exactly on university, course and intake
- Admission or enrolment letter from the Italian institution
- Passport valid past the intended stay, two blank pages
- National visa application form and photographs to specification
- Proof of financial means for the full academic year
- Health insurance with minimum €30,000 cover
- Proof of accommodation in to study in Italy
- Academic certificates, HRD-attested and apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs
- Declaration of Value, or a CIMEA statement where the institution accepts one
- Language certificate where the course requires it
Two traps specific to files from this region. Notary or SDM attestation does not substitute for HRD attestation plus MEA apostille on study documents. And if your name is spelled differently across your passport, Class 12 certificate and degree, you need an apostilled one-and-the-same-person affidavit prepared before the appointment, not after a query lands.
Beyond that, refusals here usually trace to funds with no explainable source, a course that does not follow from the applicant's background with an SOP that fails to bridge it, or pre-enrolment details that do not match the offer letter. None of those is about being a weak student. They are file-construction errors, which is the real argument for hiring anyone at all.
The scholarship deadline most agencies skip
Italy's regional DSU grants are need-based, open to non-EU students, and worth a full tuition exemption plus a stipend of roughly €5,000 to €7,200 a year depending on region.
The qualifying document is the ISEE Parificato, which converts your family's Indian income and assets into the Italian scale. It needs parental ITRs from two tax years before the academic year, property valuations, and bank balances as at 31 December of the reference year, all translated, legalised and processed through a CAF office.
Deadlines are regional, not national. Lombardy's 2026/27 window ran 10 July to 30 September 2026; EDISU Piemonte closed in early September. Your university decides which agency you apply to.
Ask any Study in Italy consultant whether ISEE Parificato is inside their fee or outside it. Most Jalandhar pages list "scholarship assistance" as a bullet and mean a link to a website.
How do you check a consultant before you pay?
Six checks. They work on us and on anyone else you are considering.
- Ask for last year's approvals by university and course name, not a headline number. Real files have names attached.
- Ask who logs into Universitaly. The correct answer is you do, with them beside you. An agency holding your credentials holds your application.
- Ask for the fee split in writing and the refund position if the visa is refused.
- Ask what happens after a refusal. A serious firm discusses the refusal grounds and the re-application route. A weak one changes the subject.
- Ask the current proof-of-funds figure. Anything other than €10,179.85 tells you what you need to know.
- Take an agreement and a GST invoice. No exceptions, whoever referred you.
Red flags worth walking away from: a guaranteed visa, a promise to "arrange" or "show" funds, pressure to pay the full amount in cash today, and any refusal to name the university before you deposit.
What should this cost you?
Official and processing costs before you fly run roughly ₹15,000 to ₹25,000: VFS service charge, courier, translation, HRD attestation and MEA apostille, Declaration of Value or CIMEA, photographs. Study applicants have in recent cycles been exempt from the national visa fee itself, but confirm the current position on the VFS Italy India page before your appointment, since that is set by the Embassy.
After arrival, the residence permit costs about €76 plus €30 stamp duty, applied for at the Questura within eight days of landing.
Consultancy fees are separate and vary widely in this city. Judge them against the service list above rather than against each other, and be clear which of translation, apostille and ISEE work sits inside the quoted number.
Are you already late?
- For a February 2027 start, the outer visa deadline under the current circular is 30 November 2026 for bachelor's, master's and academic diploma programmes. That is tight but live.
- For September 2027, you are on time, and this is the right month to start the funds trail so it has six months of history by the time you apply.
- University applications for 2027-28 open between roughly December and April.
- Allow four to eight weeks for visa processing, longer in the June to August peak. Italian missions state long-stay processing can run to 90 days, and that clock pauses whenever a query is raised.
FAQs
Which consultant is best for an Italy study visa in Jalandhar?
No agency can influence an Embassy decision, so "best" means the one whose file-building you can audit. Run the six checks above on anyone, including us.
Is IELTS mandatory?
Not universally. English-taught courses usually want IELTS, TOEFL or a medium-of-instruction certificate, and the requirement is set by the university. Check your course page, then keep the certificate in the visa file.
Can I apply without a consultant?
Yes. The parts people get wrong alone are the funds trail, the attestation route and the match between Universitaly and the offer letter. If you are confident on those three, you do not need anyone.
My marks are low or I have gap years. Is it over?
Not by itself. Italian admissions weigh the subject match, and the visa stage weighs whether the course makes sense for you. Both are addressed in the SOP and the interview, which is where preparation actually changes an outcome.
What to do this week
Open your family's bank statements and check whether the equivalent of €10,179.85 has been sitting there long enough to look ordinary. If not, start moving it now, because time in the account is the one thing that cannot be arranged later. Then pull your Class 12 and degree certificates and confirm they are on the HRD plus MEA apostille track rather than a notary one.
Bring both to a counselling session and ask us to point at the weakest line in your file instead of at a university brochure.
