Milan's Management of Human Resources master asks for a bachelor's in economics, management, political science, statistics or a broadly related field, or at least 18 credits in economics, business, maths, statistics or law. The degree and 18-credit rule
You need a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Italian graduates qualify with a degree in classes L-16, L-18, L-33, L-36 or L-41. Foreign graduates qualify with a bachelor's in economics, political science or another broadly related subject, from history to industrial engineering and from management to mathematics, philosophy or sociology, provided it can be regarded as equivalent to one of those classes. Graduates of other degrees need at least 18 ECTS in economics, business management, mathematics or statistics, or law. At least 12 of these must be in statistics, econometrics, mathematical methods for economics, mathematical analysis, probability or mathematical logic. The admissions committee assesses the credit value of foreign studies, and foreign graduates must show a comparable record or competence in logic, statistics and mathematics. [1]
Admission is based on academic merit and how well your previous studies fit the programme. [1]
What this means for your transcript
Credits on a foreign transcript are not the same unit as Italian ECTS, and the committee looks at the subjects behind them. As a guide, based on the rule above:
- Usually a fit: a BA or B.Sc. in Economics, a BBA, or a BA in Political Science or Sociology that includes statistics or quantitative courses, since these match the subject areas the rule names.
- Check carefully: a B.Com, which is close to business and economics but should show statistics or maths, and a B.Tech, B.E., BCA or B.Sc. in Mathematics or Statistics, which often has the maths but needs the committee to accept the fit with HR. Computer science credits are on the list of sectors that count towards the 18 credits.
- Often short: a BA in languages or literature, or a B.Sc. in life sciences, without economics, law, maths or statistics courses.
Meeting the rule is not enough on its own: the admission test covers labour economics, labour law, organisation theory and descriptive statistics. [1][2]

English at CEFR level B2 or higher is required for admission. You can show it in one of three ways: [1]
- An accepted certificate at B2 or higher, issued no more than three years before you apply and uploaded with the application.
- An English level certified by the university language centre during a University of Milan degree in the last four years.
- The university language centre's entry test.
If you have no valid certificate, you are told during the admission procedure to take the entry test. If you do not take or pass it, you must submit an accepted certificate by the programme's deadline, or you are not admitted. The programme rules do not list specific test scores. [1]
Students without an Italian school diploma or degree must also reach Italian at A2 before completing the programme, through a certificate or the language centre's test and courses. [1]
Admission test and selection
Every applicant takes a mandatory online test of basic knowledge: 30 multiple-choice questions on theories of organisation and the individual-organisation relationship, research methodology and descriptive statistics, labour economics, and labour law. For 2026/27 the sessions ran on 15 April, 18 May, 16 June and 28 July 2026, with the invitation sent by email about a week before. The programme page does not state a duration or pass mark. [2]

2026/27 deadlines
For 2026/27, applicants could apply between 22 January and 20 July 2026. Non-EU applicants living outside Italy with a non-Italian degree had a shorter window, from 22 January to 30 April 2026. Admitted students could enrol from 5 May 2026 to 15 January 2027. [1][2]

About the programme
Management of Human Resources: People, Data and Intelligent Technologies (MHR) is a two-year master's degree in class LM-77-R (business and economics), run by the Department of Social and Political Sciences with the Department of Economics, Management and Quantitative Methods.
It is worth 120 ECTS, taught fully in English in Milan, and took its current name in 2026/27, replacing the Management of Human Resources degree.

What you will study
The first year is fully compulsory and mixes labour economics and law with HR management, organisational behaviour, data analysis and AI. In the second year you take Hiring and Recruitment, choose electives and complete a thesis. Units in the 2026/27 study plan include:

How the programme is taught
Teaching runs in trimesters.
In the second year, 6 ECTS go to practical activities such as an internship in Italy or abroad, workshops, or language and IT skills, and the 15 ECTS final exam is often a project developed inside an organisation.
MHR is part of the European Master in Labour Studies (EMLS) network, which lets students attend part of the programme at partner universities such as the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the University of Bremen and UCLouvain. [1]
