Unimore's Artificial Intelligence Engineering master asks for a bachelor's or other three-year degree with a CGPA above three quarters of the maximum, a background in maths, physics, computer science and computer engineering, and English at B2, all assessed by a board from your documents. Degree and grade rule

You need a bachelor's degree, another three-year university degree or a suitable foreign qualification. A committee checks the curricular requirements from your academic record and the documents you upload. [1]

• Grade: your CGPA must be higher than three quarters of the maximum. If your university gives no CGPA, the weighted average of your grades is used. The committee may also use the CGPA for a first selection of applications.
• Knowledge: the board checks the basic engineering subjects (maths, physics and computer science) and the subjects that characterise computer engineering. A foundation in information engineering is expected, including basic electronics, telecommunications and automatic control.

For Italian degrees, the call for applicants living in Italy sets credit minimums instead: at least 30 CFU in maths and physics, 57 CFU in computer science and information engineering (18 of them in computer science or computer engineering) and 3 CFU in English, with a final mark of at least 85/110. What this means for your transcript

For foreign degrees the visa call sets no credit count: the board reads your exam list and syllabi against the subject areas above. On a 10-point scale, three quarters of the maximum is 7.5, so you need a CGPA above 7.5. As a guide, based on the rule above:

• Usually a fit: a B.Tech or B.E. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT, or Electronics and Communication with solid maths, physics and programming.
• Check carefully: a B.Tech or B.E. in Electrical, Instrumentation or another engineering branch, or a B.Sc. in Computer Science. Maths and computing may be covered, but computer engineering subjects, electronics, telecommunications or automatic control can be thin.
• Often short: a BCA, or a B.Sc. in Maths or Physics, usually lacks the engineering subjects. A B.Com, BBA or BA does not cover the listed areas.

If your background is close but not complete, the board can set additional requirements to meet before enrolment. For 2026/27 visa applicants, these had to be met by 31 March 2026. [1]

English

English at CEFR B2 or higher, shown by a certificate or by a declaration from your university confirming the level. Accepted proof: [1]

• An international certificate on Unimore's list of recognised certifications
• University English exams at B2, documented by a statement from your university
• Coming from an English-speaking country

The call does not list specific test scores. Without suitable proof, you can take a remote B2 test with Unimore's Language Centre, but only after you submit your application. [1]

Selection

There is no entrance test. An Examination Board assesses your qualifications and documents and gives one of these results: [1]

• Pass: your background is suitable, and you can enrol once you hold your degree
• Additional requirements: gaps to make up before enrolment
• Fail: the board gives its reasons, and you cannot enrol
• Incomplete application: the application reopens so you can add the missing documents

2026/27 deadlines

For 2026/27, non-EU applicants living abroad who need a visa had to submit the application for evaluation by 31 March 2026. Enrolment runs from 8 July to 22 December 2026, and the ER.GO benefits application was due by the end of August 2026. [1]

Applicants already living in Italy with a foreign degree apply under a separate call: for 2026/27 the deadline is 14 December 2026, with the degree obtained by 18 December 2026. The 2027/28 calls will set new dates. [2]

Documents and non-EU steps

The application for evaluation on Esse3 needs: [1]

• Your degree certificate and mark, or your expected graduation date
• A list of exams passed, in Italian or English, with dates, scores and course length, plus any exams still to take
• A certificate of the maximum degree score at your university
• A detailed syllabus for each exam, in Italian or English
• Other useful skills, such as IT skills, languages or work experience

After a pass, you pre-enrol on Universitaly with your passport and a photo, and can add your degree certificate, a declaration of value or a CIMEA statement of comparability, your exam list and English certificates. Unimore tells the Italian consulate if you are admitted. [1]

To enrol in Modena you need your bachelor's diploma, translated and legalised by the Italian embassy or consulate, a declaration of value or ENIC-NARIC statement, your degree certificate with exams, your residence permit or its post office receipt, ID, a photo, your study visa and any English certificates. What bachelor's degree and grades do I need for AI Engineering at Unimore?
